Description
Porsche 356 A 1600 Super Cabriolet 1958
The beginning of Ferdinand Porsche’s automotive vision, where he developed a sports car with aerodynamic, lightweight and highly efficient design. The number 356 was assigned to this Porsche because it was the 356th project developed by Porsche Engineering. The 356 was also the first production car to bear the Porsche name.
Production began in 1948, with the earliest cars built in Austria using aluminum bodies. Manufacturing later moved to Germany after Porsche contracted Reutter Coachworks to produce the 356 bodies. In 1951, the 356 achieved a class victory at Le Mans, cementing its reputation as a lightweight, agile and remarkably capable sports car.
