• Developed jointly by Ford of Britain and Ford of Germany, the MkII was a more refined evolution of the iconic Escort platform, powered by a 2-litre SOHC Pinto inline-four, driving the rear wheels through a longitudinal layout
• Factory-fitted with a twin-venturi Weber 32/36 DGAV carburettor, with optional dual Weber 40DCNF or IDF 'Group 1' setup, suspension comprised MacPherson struts with anti-roll bar at the front, and leaf springs with telescopic dampers at the rear
• Distinctive 'droop snoot' nose with quad headlamps gave the RS2000 its unmistakable front-end profile, 0–60mph in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 110mph - impressive for its era
