Though recognized as outlaws from the traditional vein, this movement has encouraged many independent builders to achieve their own unique vision with their depiction of what the ideal 911 might be. General OverviewThis 911 began as a stock 1976 Porsche 911S Targa. Though the early history of this car is not known at this time, the former owner purchased it from a seller in Florida in 2005. After struggling to get the car to meet her driving needs, she sold the non-running car to the current owner in 2019. After evaluating the car, the current owner, a lifelong car enthusiast and professional equine dental practitioner, determined this Porsche would be an excellent candidate to design and build something special based on his vision for an updated Targa. After five years and over $80,000 spent in services, parts, and restoration, the 85-year-old owner decided it was time to offer the car to a younger enthusiast – one that might continue the refinement of this Porsche. During the build, this car was rebodied with 993 series body panels molded in fiberglass, retaining the steel front lid and doors. The body was constructed over the existing 1976 platform, retaining the Targa hoop, rear glass, side glass, and installing a new windshield. Paint and body specialist Todd Rego performed the body and paint work, finished in Midnight Blue Pearl. A set of HRE performance rims were installed with Falken 225/40 18 front tires and 335/30 ZR18 BF Goodrich rear tires (total 14” width). In addition to the custom body and paint work performed on this car, the brakes were upgraded to four-piston calipers (reportedly from a Ferrari) paired with drilled rotors. All four brake calipers were rebuilt, new braided brake lines installed, and a Boge front strut brace installed. The engine was rebuilt by Mobile Works West, Grass Valley, CA with assistance from various vendors including German Machine, Red Line Racing Cams (reconditioning 911S cams), Precision Machine, and EBS Racing. The engine is built from a 1975 European magnesium case which was rebuilt with new injectors, new head studs and oil fed tensioner, new aluminum rocker arm covers, reconditioning the rocker assembly, and machine work performed to high tolerances including polishing the crank and measuring cylinder tolerances. Additionally, while the engine was out, the flywheel was resurfaced and new transmission seals were installed. The front seats were redone in black leather with white seat piping, doors and floors were lined with Dynamat, the Targa bar was wrapped with carbon fiber, custom VDO Electronic gauges installed in the dash, a new Alpine smart stereo with custom speakers was installed, new custom foot pedals, new rubber seals, new Targa gaskets, new felt tracks for both doors, and window tinting were also installed.Titled and registered in California, this car has passed three prior emissions tests. Please note the following items: The owner has advised that the 3rd gear synchro is worn and thus requires slower shifting to engage third gear. The windshield washer system is currently not functional, most of the air conditioning components are in place but the system is currently non-functional. The exterior turn signals operate properly but do not self-cancel and the dash lights indicate opposite direction when actuated. The brake warning light remains on even when the brake is off, the passenger side window drops from the track roller, and the heater cable is not installed to actuate the heater (a new cable is included with the car).Condition and PresentationDisplaying a wickedly wide rear stance, gleaming color, and custom touches, this 911S Targa offers the next owner an exciting opportunity to enhance this car with their own personal upgrades and continue in the outlaw direction established by the current owner. The finish is very well done, smooth, glossy, and displaying deep luster on all body panels. The lenses, lighting, bumpers, and various updated trim and script are also in excellent condition. The panel gaps are consistent showing good closures and tight fit, even for both doors which have very good part lines. The stance is well done sitting on HRE performance rims with Falken 225/40 18 front tires and 335/30 ZR18 BF Goodrich rear tires. Rear tire width is a whopping 14” across making for a fantastic rear view with the broad rear wing and tinted rear glass. The interior presents as a nice driver level car with custom black leather trimmed seats and white accent piping, black door panels, and black targa roof. The Targa roof cover will need to be replaced but a new cover kit is included with the spares. The door panels, carpeting, and side panels have a generally good quality feel to the finishes, though showing evidence of age. The dashboard is quite nice, featuring clean and nicely detailed aftermarket VDO instruments with good color and contrast. The car is outfitted with a 5-speed manual transmission and a carbon fiber finished shifter handle. The gear lever is situated in the center console which has been treated to a carbon fiber applique. Under the hood, the engine bay delivers a generally correct presentation reflective of original specifications with modest internal upgrades. The engine is clean and well maintained with very few miles recorded since it was professionally rebuilt. The front storage compartment is clean and well-maintained with the correct VIN stamping, a battery installed in 2024, and an aftermarket Boge strut tower brace. The underside is clean, dry, has no immediate visual signs of structural compromise, and appears to have been well cared for during earlier ownership. Visual evidence of yellow paint is a strong indication the original finish was yellow from the factory. The car starts, stops, and drives, though the gearbox will require synchromesh servicing. The engine pulls strong in all gears and the brakes operate very well on a tall pedal. In all, this is a dynamic Porsche ideal for the motoring enthusiast to enjoy as is and improve over time.Items Included with the CarThis car is accompanied by a set of tubular headers, a display poster and easel, targa roof, a targa cover in box, a car cover, a space saver spare tire on factory style rim, a car cover, a set of black floor mats, a pair of side view mirrors, spare rubber trim pieces, stereo instruction manual and speaker manual, a pair of horns, LED bulb lights in box, heater cable, various tools, front license plate and brackets, and a brake master cylinder.
