Hergestellt um die Blasenbildung im Vergaser in den Griff zu bekommen...Aufgrund des großen Zeitdrucks in der Entwicklung konnten die Versuche nicht vollständig abgeschlossen werden, sodass man die Blasenbildung beim Rennen in Kauf nahm. Ähnliche Pumpen sind in den Rennwagen W196 und W196S (300SLR) verbaut, sie unterscheiden sich durch das größere Volumen der Pumpelemente W196 2,5 Liter / W196S 3 Liter / W165 1,5 Liter. Bosch hat keine Unterlagen zu dieser Pumpe, verweist aber auf das Sandgussverfahren hergestellte Gehäuse der Pumpe, dieses Verfahren wird ausschließlich bei Kleinstserien oder Einzelstücken eingesetzt.
