• Design by Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale
• Rare version of the third series with original hard top
• Only 1,600 units produced
In order to revitalise its range and appeal to a more exclusive clientele, Lancia began collaborating with leading Italian coachbuilders in 1956 to offer special variants based on the Appia. One of the most iconic remains the Cabriolet Vignale, unveiled in March 1957 and designed by a young Giovanni Michelotti. With its elegant lines, taut profile, horizontal grille and discreet American-inspired rear fins, this version immediately caught the attention of prestige car enthusiasts.
The model we are presenting is a 1961 Appia Cabriolet, one of the last to be produced. It benefits from the developments of the third series: an engine upgraded to 60 horsepower, optimised brakes and modernised headlights. A remarkable detail is that it comes with its rare original hard top, allowing the car to be enjoyed in all seasons without altering the aesthetics of the convertible.
In consistent and authentic overall condition, this Appia Vignale offers a high-quality base with definite aesthetic and heritage potential. Its mechanics are functional, but its MOT, not valide due to the brakes and windshield will need to be renewed to ensure trouble-free use.
With only 1,600 examples produced, this convertible remains extremely rare on the market, much more exclusive than its contemporaries such as the Fiat 1200 Spider or the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
