Description

1964 CHEVROLET CORVAIR MONZA SPYDER
Chassis no. 4096W179588
French registration document
- Desirable Monza version
- Vintage 1964: latest developments
- Originally French.
Introduced to the public on 2 October 1959, the Chevrolet Corvair marked a breakthrough in the American automotive landscape. Its innovative architecture, with an air-cooled 6-cylinder flat engine in a rear overhang, was a radical departure from the standards of the time. This technical daring earned its designer, Edward Cole, a place on the cover of Time Magazine on 5 October 1959.
The car on offer here is a rare Monza Spyder, a top-of-the-range sports car that went on sale in 1964. In that year, the Corvair benefited from a number of important developments, notably in terms of roadholding thanks to the adoption of improved rear suspension. This is an original French model, delivered new by General Motors France on 27 April 1964.
Today, this Corvair is in generally good condition, with a patina in keeping with its age. After being immobilised for several years, it has recently been put back on the road. However, a complete overhaul is in order, particularly for the brakes and automatic gearbox, as attested by the report from the technical inspection, which shows a counter-inspection.
An emblematic model for enthusiasts of original American cars, this Monza Spyder is an excellent base for a light overhaul or for pleasure use after some mechanical care.
