HISTORY
The pinnacle of post-war German engineering and understated luxury, the Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc Coupé represents the zenith of the brand’s exclusive hand-built offerings in the 1950s. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955, the 300 Sc succeeded the already prestigious 300 S and introduced significant technical advancements, including Bosch mechanical fuel injection and significant suspension improvements.
Powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six engine producing 175 bhp, mated to a smooth 4-speed manual transmission, the 300 SC offered performance on par with the finest contemporaries while maintaining the dignified ride quality expected from a flagship model. Only 98 coupés were produced between 1955 and 1958, making this an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after vehicle.
Every 300 SC was meticulously crafted by hand at Sindelfingen, with exquisite attention to detail and quality. The car’s elegant proportions, chrome accents, and rich wooden interior trim exemplify the refined aesthetic of the era. Fitted luggage, Becker radio, and luxurious leather upholstery came standard, reflecting its status as the choice of royalty, diplomats, and industrial titans.
OUR 300 SC
This example was delivered new to Vancouver, Canada in its current colour combination of Graphite Grey (DB 190) over a grey leather (955) interior. The car retains its original matching numbers engine.
The car was acquired in Canada in 2006 by a noted specialist in post-war Mercedes-Benz and was purchased by a German businessman in North Rhine-Westphalia, before passing to a second owner in Lower Saxony in 2011. In 2019 the car was acquired via a German specialist by its current owner.
The car was subject to a restoration in the mid-2000’s, and in the past five years it has been maintained in a private collection.
A true collector’s item, the 300 SC represents not only the height of 1950s automotive craftsmanship but also an enduring symbol of Mercedes-Benz’s post-war renaissance.
