Description

OVERVIEW
Released in 2000, the original 360 Modena was a game changer for Ferrari. Featuring the most advanced production techniques, materials, premium technology, and a newly derived V8 engine the Modena set the stage for the new century. The state-of-the-art aluminum space frame chassis was 40% stiffer than the F355 and yet 28% lighter. The new mid-mounted V8 engine developed just under 400hp and was positioned in the car to no longer necessitate costly “engine out” timing belt services. Visually the new Pininfarina design was dynamic and aggressive, with a visually delightful view of the engine as seen through the clear mid-engine cover. Fresh and innovative, the 360 delivered a distinct Ferrari impression and ground-breaking performance.

The Spider version, unveiled at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show, was equally impressive and offered comfortable open-air driving via carefully modulated cockpit air management which reduced interior wind buffeting. To compensate for the lack of a solid roof, critical structural engineering included strengthening the sills, stiffening the forward section of the floor pan, redesigning the windshield frame for more support, twin structural roll over bars, and added side impact beams for improved impact safety. The soft top smoothly disappeared into the rear bodywork at the touch of a button, fitting under the contoured rear body section. The Spider design was further distinguished from the coupe with unique intake manifolds, which were relocated to allow for soft top stowage in the retracted position. Contemporary automotive press pronounced the 360 as one of the most important advancements in Ferraris storied history, including highly positive reviews of the F1 gearbox which offered lightening quick gear changes without removing your hands from the steering wheel.

This Ferrari 360 was delivered to the first owner in Florida and remained under the care of the Coral Gables selling dealer until the second owner, a resident of Illinois, purchased the car in 2015 with just over 11,000 miles. The current and 3rd owner purchased this Ferrari in 2022 with 12,642 miles continuing with dealer services with Ferrari of Seattle in 2022 and 2023 including rebuilding the hydraulic top rams, replacing the convertible top actuation sensors, installing new fuel pumps, rebuilding the differential including replacement of the limited slip clutches, a new gearbox oil cooler, and a new heat exchanger. In preparation for sale, an $8k service was performed including the installation of new radiators, a new oxygen sensor, and full fluid service.

Today this 360 Spider presents in excellent overall condition having benefited from recent mechanical work and regular servicing. The Rosso Corsa finish is quite nice throughout, showing excellent gloss and smooth surfaces in keeping with the low recorded miles. The sloping windshield, see-through engine cover, race inspired twin roll hoops, and low stance create a striking presence particularly in Ferrari legacy colors. The top canvas appears in overall good condition though less so the elastics with typical signs of age in the seams, and as such can use a helping hand when lowering the top to be sure it all folds correctly. The glass, lighting, and lenses are in very good to excellent condition with no fogging or haze to the tinted finishes. The body panels display excellent fit throughout the car including smooth transitions from the front bumper cap seam. The inner surfaces and door jambs are clean and well-maintained. The factory wheels are in excellent condition fronting matching red calipers over disc brakes.

The interior of the car is in especially nice condition. The natural leather is supple and smooth with excellent surfacing, delicately embossed Cavallino headrests, and no notable flaws to the leather seat bolsters or pleated seat inserts. The dashboard, instruments and switches are all in near new condition, having been refinished to address the “sticky button” issues that these cars are known for. The steering wheel, dash pad, carbon fiber shift paddles, and instrument cluster are all in excellent condition. All other interior surfaces including the center console, door panels, visors, and A-pillars are in excellent condition, including the matching color carpeting which is surprisingly nice considering a quarter century has passed since this Ferrari was built. The front storage compartment is essentially as new with correct factory lining and proper factory accessories.

Under the hood, the innovative V8 engine has been properly maintained and features beautifully finished castings, factory housings, and original accessory equipment as delivered. Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place and in excellent condition. The original engine and engine compartment are clean and correct. The underside of the car shows only minor evidence of use, no signs of corrosion, no visual evidence of structural compromise, and visual presentation consistent with the low miles.

The car drives and shifts smoothly, the F1 gearbox is easily actuated from the carbon fiber paddle shifters. Power delivery is sharp and exhilarating, and yet touring distances are comfortable at highway speeds even with the convertible top down. Cornering and braking are hallmarks of Ferrari Formula 1 lineage benefiting from the very best in racing technology. Often regarded purely for their sports car performance and racing heritage, the 360 set a new standard for Ferrari, making performance driving both exhilarating and comfortable. This Ferrari is accompanied by factory books and manuals, tire inflator, and copies of service invoices from the current and prior owner.

This Ferrari 360 Spider is a wonderful example of one of the most ground-breaking open sports cars offered from Ferrari. Known history and regular service/maintenance records further validate the care given to this striking and capable car. Offered in Ferrari legacy colors, the stunning red exterior and natural leather interior make for a captivating performance car ready to participate in Ferrari Club tours, concours events, or coastal weekend getaways.
