Description
c.1953 Rumi 125cc Competizione SS52 Gobbetto
Registration no. unregistered
Frame no. 022
Engine no. 0022
So-called because of its fuel tank's unusual shape, Rumi's Gobbetto (little hunchback) racer debuted in 1951 and was built in two versions: Series 1 (1951-1952) and Series 2 (1953-1955). Significant differences were the cylinder barrel material: cast-iron (Series 1) and aluminium (Series 2), and the ignition system: flywheel magneto (S1) and chain-driven magneto (S2). Series 2 machines also featured a different frame and fuel tank, and swinging-arm rear suspension, replacing the S1's plunger arrangement. Sources vary regarding the number produced, ranging from as low as 40 to as high as 60. This Series 1 is said to be one of only six survivors. The machine is offered with ASI papers and (copy) marque-related literature.
As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
