Description

As designer Tony Lapine’s new 964 was launched in mid-1989, Porsche offered a limited number of the much-loved, outgoing 930 S models that were sold through the Special Wish/Special Request program. Just 55 standard-bodied LHD coupes were built with the 930/66S engine. This special run of cars had a 6,800 rpm rev limit; a different turbocharger, intercooler, and wastegate; and developed 330 bhp. Power was delivered through a G50/50 1 five-speed Getrag gearbox, with limited-slip differential. This Turbo S coupe was ordered by a German Porsche distributor on September 12, 1989, finished in Slate Gray Metallic with black and gray leather. It was soon sold to a Japanese museum and had two Japanese corporate owners prior to the consignor’s acquisition earlier this year.

The Special Wish Turbos featured a unique front air dam, integral spotlights, and front-mounted, racing-derived oil cooler; the rear valance concealed an exhaust system with quad outlets. Options on this car include a unique center console, driver’s-side storage shelf, heated and height-adjustable 959-style seats, green-tinted windshield, tinted side and rear windows, and an electric sunroof.

This Turbo S coupe’s engine and transaxle number stampings correspond to the factory record, and the consignor states that no aftermarket changes have been made. The car is accompanied by Porsche documents, owner’s manuals, service records, tools, and jack. Among the last of its kind, this spectacular Turbo S surely constitutes a “special wish” for any serious Porsche collector.
