Description

Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the 911, Porsche released the Carrera Speedster, a modern update of the 356 Speedster. It rekindled much of the spirit of the original, and only 2,104 were produced for worldwide use.

The 911 Speedster offered a cut-down windshield that was lower and more raked than that of the standard cabriolet on which it was based. A thin fabric folding top offered weather protection, while a fiberglass tonneau covered the area where the rear seats normally resided.

Finished in original and uncommon Linen Grey Metallic over a black interior, this Speedster was completed by the Porsche factory in June 1989. One of 823 destined for the US, it was sold by Ogner Porsche of Woodland Hills, California, to its first, long-term owner one month later. The $70,126 window sticker price reflected optional air-conditioning, cruise control, shorter gearshift lever, rear luggage compartment, and Blaupunkt “Charleston” radio, all of which are still accounted for today, as are its original manuals, tool kit, keys, window sticker, spare tire, and jack.

Porsche specialist Canepa in Scotts Valley, California, recently serviced and detailed this time capsule car, ensuring it presents as complete. With less than 2,400 miles traveled, this 911 Speedster surely is among the finest available and belongs in any collection of modern and classic Porsches.
