The Model: For 1961, Lincoln had adopted a “less is more” school of thought in the elegant design of their slab-sided sedans. When a totally new design was unveiled in 1970, it retained the slab-sided ideals, but with just a bit of sculpting along the top beltline. All Lincolns were built at the Wixom assembly line which was dedicated to the highest degree of assembly perfection. Lincolns were given hundreds of pounds of sound-deadener, plush interiors of fine leathers or rich Velour. Appointments included all the power equipment you could think of including, steering, brakes, windows, seats, locks, antenna as well as air-conditioning and the best sound systems available. But the writing was on the wall and the days of these big sedans were limited. 1978 would mark the last year that the big 460 V8 would be offered and the lovely Town Cars would be discontinued at the end of the 1979 model year.

The Car: This is one of the last fullsize Town Cars produced with the 460 cid V8, the largest displacement ever placed in a production Lincolns. Finished in Gold metallic, it is extremely well appointed with all of the standard power equipment, plus cruisecontrol, working air-conditioning and Cartier digital display clock in the dashboard. For sounds, the original owner opted for the AM/FM Cassette. This car appears to have been given outstanding care, as there is no sign of any paint wear, loss or respray. The leather interior is soft and supple and all of the accessories are reported to be in working order. While we have seen a number of 1979 Town Cars with the 400 cid V8s, it is rare to find a 1978 edition with the larger 460 V8, one of the last big Lincolns with the big engine, and a unique opportunity for you to be the new owner.
