The winner’s presentation bronze plaque awarded to Count Giulio Masetti upon his victory in the Targa Florio in May 1921. Commissioned by Count Vincenzo Florio who conceived the race, the large plaque was sculpted by the Italian Futurist artist and sculptor Duilio Cambellotti (1874–1960), who also designed Florio’s superb Rapiditas magazine in 1908. The appearance of the plaque, cast by the Florentine bronze foundry Picchiani e Barlacchi, was subtly modified and modernized over the years until the race was discontinued, as a competitive event, for safety reasons in 1977.

The 1921 Targa Florio was won by Count Giulio Masetti (1895–1926), a young nobleman and scion of an ancient Tuscan family, driving his powerful F.I.A.T. Tipo S57. He had bought this from motor racing legend Antonio Ascari for the 1919 Targa Florio, in which he finished 4th. He triumphed in 1921 and 1922, dominating the event through the early 1920s, but sadly perished in 1926 after overturning his Delage in that year’s Targa Florio. This large and important example of Italian Futurist design, by one of its acknowledged masters, is in excellent condition and exquisitely framed.
