Carlos Sainz, whose full name is Carlos Sainz Vázquez de Castro Cenamor Rincón Rebollo Birto Moreno de Aranda de Anteruriaga Tiapera Deltún, made his Formula 1 debut in the 2015 season driving for Scuderia Torro Rosso. He took the wheel of the Renault in 2018 and joined McLaren Racing in 2019. He scored his first podium finish that same year, finishing 3rd in the Brazilian Grand Prix, his 101st start in the discipline.

On May 14, 2020, he signs the contract with Scuderia Ferrari that allows him to replace Sebastian Vettel in 2021. His first season with the reds brought him 4 podiums. On July 3, 2022, he achieved his first pole position at Silverstone during qualifying for the British Grand Prix. The following day, he claimed his first Formula 1 victory. He finished the season in 5th place, while Charles Leclerc finished 2nd behind Max Verstappen.
