Following the success of his miniature Ferrari 330 P2 and Ford GT40, François Mortarini, founder of S.C.A.F. (Société de Construction des Automobiles Francis), began a series of Chaparral 2F-inspired children’s cars in association with General Motors.

Originally constructed by Chaparral Cars to compete in the 1967 World Endurance Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ Championship, the Chaparral 2F featured an aluminum big-block V-8 mated to a specially designed three-speed automatic transmission, which eliminated the need for a clutch, and thus, allowed for a third pedal designed to adjust the angle of the car’s most prominent feature, an overhead wing. Using the left foot, the driver was able to harness the varying amounts of downforce needed between turns and straightaways to maintain greater speeds. Cutting-edge technology for its day, Chaparral Cars initiated a new approach to engineering that has since become ubiquitous in nearly all genres of racing.

This rare miniature S.C.A.F. Chaparral 2F features a fiberglass body over a tubular chassis, and its JLO single-cylinder engine. Setting it apart from other miniatures, this mini Chaparral was designed with an adjustable wing much like the original. Prior to the current owner’s acquisition 25 years ago, it received a complete restoration by noted vehicle preservationist Don Orosco. With the added distinction of being chassis 0001 of only three examples known, an offering such as this will likely not be repeated.

*Please note that this vehicle is sold only as a collector’s item and may not be suitable for operation by any child.
