This noble fabric comes to us from Portugal made from pure newwool fromsheep from theSerra da Estrela, durable and very resistant. It was traditionally used to make the warm and waterproof capes of the shepherds who roamed the mountains of central and northern portugal.
The extraordinary qualities of the burel are due to a singular artisanal manufacturing process: once washed and treated, the wool is installed on the loom to be warped (prepared). After weaving, the wool is placed on a fuller mill (pisão), a machine that beats and boils the wool to make the fabric more compact and resistant.
The fabric is heavy, thick and therefore warm, windproof and ultra strong.
