In some ways, the R129 generation Mercedes SL represented the end of a genetic chain that began way back with the legendary 300 SL, being the last of Mercedes’ drop-top grand tourers to pair a folding soft top with a removable fixed hard top. 30 whole years have passed since Aston Martin’s first customer DB7s hit the open road, and since then, we are struggling to find a car from the brand that oozes understated style quite like this grand tourer does. It was a car that was built as quite literally a make-or-break vehicle, with financial issues littering Aston Martin during this time, the Ian Callum-designed DB7 stood tall, and became a staple for the brand.
