Description

"The Volkswagen Type 2 was introduced in 1950 as a multi-variant utility vehicle, known as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus (depending on body type). The first generation of these versatile vehicles (named the T1) was produced with distinctive split-screens from 1950 until 1967. Only two models were originally offered, the Kombi and the Commercial, the Microbus was added in May 1950, and was joined by the Deluxe Microbus in June 1951. The Deluxe Microbus (known as the ‘Sunroof Deluxe' in America) was the most luxurious version of the Volkswagen Transporter T1. The '13 Window Deluxe' model was offered from VW as an upgrade from the standard Microbus and featured two additional side windows, the deluxe belt line trim around the swage line of the vehicle and a Kienzle clock in the dashboard. This impeccable 13 window split screen example has been owned by our enthusiast vendor for the last 14 years. This iconic bus benefitted from a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration and presents wonderfully in gleaming VW lotus white coachwork which is complemented by a retrimmed broomsgrove beige interior. The hand built oak interior is currently set up as a walkthrough to the front cab. The clever designed interior also boasts a secretly stored additional sectional bench seat. The custom built 2.1 litre engine both looks impressive, and we are told runs without fault. The aerospace aluminum fuel tank and oil filler are bespoke to this restoration. Porsche 944 disc brakes adorn the rear axle, a stage 2 clutch, close ratio gearbox and engine compartment fire extinguisher system are some of the additional features as well as a Rusty Lee Full Width Rock n’ Roll Bed with powder coated finish. The bus was originally imported from Texas by Rusty Lee and restored to showroom condition. Later additions include: Full electrical hook up and thermostatic controlled gas heating system. This year a Red 9 Design wishbone suspension was fitted at the front and new swing arms to the rear. The bus covers approximately 300 dry miles a year and remains in dry storage. Consigned by Dominic Lake.
*Interested parties please note that this is a 13 window deluxe model.
