"The Volkswagen Corrado is a sporty compact car built at the Karmann factory in Osnabrück, Germany. It was designed by Herbert Schäfer and was manufactured from September 1988. Originally conceived as a possible successor to the Porsche 944, the Corrado has 2+2 seating layout with the car's floorpan based on the A2 platform. The Corrado is recognisable by its wedge profile, flush mounted windows and active rear spoiler that raises automatically when the car exceeds 50mph and automatically retracts at speeds below 15mph, it can be manually controlled from a switch in the cockpit. All Corrados were front-wheel drive and featured various petrol engines variants. Auto Express magazine describe it as ‘as one of VW’s best-ever drivers’ cars.
This superb example was originally registered on 2nd January 1996 and is therefore one of the last built by Karmann. The Blackberry paintwork is in excellent order as is the black leather interior. A superb history folder accompanies this Volkswagen clearly showing it has been highly cherished over the years, the current condition certainly reflects this. Contained within the history file is photographic evidence of the engine being removed and the car stripped down with lots of parts being replaced. The rear was then stripped down and given the same treatment. The mileage of 74,696 is modest given the age of the car and it comes supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 8th August 2021. Volkswagen Corrados are fast becoming recognised for the outstanding vehicle that they are; quick, comfortable and with great roadholding. Viewing is recommended to appreciate the quality of this example.
