Everyone knows the story of the Beetle, while the concept has remained unaltered since 1938 it underwent over 70,000 identifiable modifications. It was this constant development and attention to detail which allowed the Beetle to maintain its position and which make good examples a sensible purchase today.
A late model, such as the car we offer, had undergone a lot of development. The cabriolet version, built by Karmann, was a cult car even in its day. It is not difficult to understand why since it had VW’s legendary build quality, finish, smooth gear change, reliability and, unlike many cabriolets of its time, its hood kept the elements out. From 1970 the 1303S model, which should not be confused with the basic Beetle, had MacPherson strut front suspension, improved interior, front disc brakes and a 60bhp, 1584cc engine.
