Excellent project for a conservative restoration
The Beetle was one of history's cars. The Typ 1 as it was originally known started life thanks to the intuition of Ferdinand Porsche, who had to design a 'car for the people' that was reliable, fast and economical. Designed to be aerodynamic and fuel efficient, the Beetle went into production in 1938 but with Germany's entry into the war, examples were produced for military use and as cars for high-ranking officers. After the end of the conflict, the Beetle enjoyed unprecedented success: more than 20 million examples were produced until 2003. One of the variants of the Type 1 was the Beetle, which was introduced in 1970 and featured numerous improvements such as a McPherson-type front suspension and a more pronounced front end, which was aimed at obtaining more boot space.
This 1973 Type 1 Karmann Cabriolet example still has its Forlì orange number plate and retains an eye-catching Giallo Rallye colour. Functioning and complete, it is sold as a good conservative restoration project. The engine is running and overhaul work has recently been carried out on the steering and carburettor heads. The car has new tyres and retains its original interior and hood.
The bottoms show some signs of repairs made over the years: there is rust in the underbody and therefore a restoration is advisable. There are a few defects on the bodywork due to the formation of small and sporadic bubbles on the bodywork.
Complete with many original details, it is a timeless classic ready for a new chapter in its life.
