Popularity of the Beach Buggy peaked in the late 1960's and early 1970's with the Volkswagen Beetle, nicknamed 'Bug' (hence 'Buggy') which were most commonly used for the platform. Ideal because the rear engine layout improves traction, the air-cooled engine avoids the complexities and failure points associated with water-cooled units. Dune buggies generally came with fiberglass bodies. The original dune buggy was the 1964 Meyers Manx built by classic constructor, Bruce Meyers, using a Volkswagen Beetle chassis.

This fantastic looking beach buggy was originally registered on 30th January 1970 and is presented in yellow with a black interior. Fitted with a custom built front and rear roll cage, this build was clearly done as a 'no expense spared' exercise. The look of this stylish Volkswagen is enhanced with wide rear tyres and an exhaust system to match the car's character. The front seats are bucket seat style and include four-point harness seatbelts. Offered to auction with a V5 registration document, various sundry bills and old MoT test records, this really is a fantastic example ready to enjoy blasting across your local beach! Consigned by Will Penrose.

Guide price: £10,000-£12,000
