Volvo presented the PV444 at the large Volvo exhibition in Stockholm in September 1944 as a sign of hope for peace and better times. With an attractive price of only 4800 Swedish kronor, the PV444 cost no more than Volvo's first car, the ÖV4 from 1927.

The look of the 444 was influenced by American design. This car was the first Volvo with a self-supporting bodywork without a separate chassis. It was also fitted with a layered windscreen, an important safety innovation. The interest in the PV444 was enormous and when it was replaced by the PV544, almost 200,000 of them were built (the original planning was for 8,000 units). The 444 was the first small Volvo which really accelerated Volvo’s production.

The Volvo has a properly running engine with a nice sound. The car shifts smoothly through all gears and it brakes properly. The whitewall tyres give a look from that period. The original interior is in good condition but it has been used for 66 years. It has not been renewed on purpose in order to keep the car's authentic look. The paint is still in good condition but has (minor) wear which is to be expected with a car this age.

The car has a Dutch registration and a valid Dutch periodic inspection, this classic is ready to be enjoyed!
