The Swedes are justifiably very proud of their car industry. Whilst your average German is quite content to expect a car to emit from a factory on every street corner, the average Swede is a lot more fanatic when it comes to brand loyalty. That love is never stronger than when it comes to Volvo. The later possibly even more so since the demise of Saab.

This Volvo 121 Amazon was supplied from new to a family member of the last owner. This car has therefore been in the family since 1964. After such a length of time a car becomes part of the family. The first owner used it until 1991, then it was used on a recreational base by the second owner until 1993. At this stage she had almost had 30 years under her belt and it was decided to restore to her former glory. A very low mileage also played a part in this decision. The previous owner confirmed to us

that the 25,450 km on the clock the actual mileage is. Taking the car’s overall quality into consideration there is no reason for us to doubt the veracity of the mileage.

The restoration was no rush job by any stretch of the imagination, as it lasted until 2005. A friendly mechanic took care of the full mechanical rebuild and the bodywork and interior was mainly tackled by themselves. Putting the whole car back together also took a number of years. One thing is sure and that is the enormous detailed workmanship that went into this restoration.

The bodywork looks great with its fine, thin and correctly aligned panelwork. The car has a good looking and high quality finish. The car is fitted with the right steel rims and re-chromed and painted hubcaps together with correctly sized BF Goodrich tyres with a subtle whitewall.

The chrome brightwork and bumpers were completely refurbished and still look the part. Inside a number of period correct accessories are present. For instance there is a child seat, a Caltrex cushion as well as a good old fashioned rug. There are a number s of stickers adorning the outside of the car. The instruments and switches are all in very good cosmetic and working order. Due to the low mileage the upholstery on the seats could be reused. The carpets and headlining were fully replaced and look perfect.

The engine and transmission were fully rebuilt. The previous owner was friends with a Volvo mechanic who dismantled all moving parts down to the very last screw. The resulting mechanics are more than satisfying with a fantastically running engine. The gear change is precise and matters concerning brakes and suspension shine through in an unobtrusive manner. In short the mechanics are in such good shape that it gives one an inkling of how it must have felt to collect your new Amazon from the dealership in the 60’s.

This car comes with its original owner’s manual, an old fashioned roadmap of Sweden as well as an old magazine with general information about the car.

We can highly recommend this wonderful Volvo 121 Amazon with its fantastic condition and incredibly low mileage. Truly a unique example of its kind.
