Description

"With truly international credentials, this modern departure from Volvo’s standard fare was planned in Sweden, built both in the UK and Sweden but designed by a Swede working at Carrozzeria Frua in Italy. Given the streamlined and elegant lines that adorn this model, it was produced both as a two-door coupé and latterly as a shooting brake. Initially marketed as a P1800S, the ‘S’ standing for Sweden, the power output was increased in 1970 with the addition of Bosch fuel injection hence P1800E, the ‘E’ standing for Einspritzung, the German for fuel injection allowing for a top speed of, incredibly for the time, 118mph.
Supplied in Inca yellow with a contrasting black leatherette trim, the quality here is clear to see. Maintenance has been relentless over the years with very little reference to cost. As a result, the history file is extensive with numerous invoices, old MoT test certificates, original owners handbook and detailed information including engine-rebuilds, fuel systems overhaul, much additional mechanical work with, in 2016, all sills and outriggers replaced with a CD detailing works done including paint. With only 58 P1800E models registered with the DVLA (of which 32 are declared SORN), this is a rare car, even more so in this outstanding condition and they are quickly rising in popularity as a great 70's icon. There is little wonder why this was the motorcar of choice by the most elegant of detectives, Simon Templar himself, in the long-running TV show, The Saint."
