"The Triumph TR6 was manufactured for seven years from 1969 and by the time production came to an end in July 1976, it was the best-seller of the TR range. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, however the front and rear were squared off and all TR6s featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market, the engine was fitted with carburettors whilst, for other world markets including the UK, the TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. It featured a four-speed manual gearbox, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15 wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and boot, bucket seats and a full complement of instruments. In total 94,619 TR6s were built of which 86,249 were sold overseas and only 8,370 were sold in the UK.
This stunning example was the winner of ‘Best Standard Car’ at the 2017 TR Register International Weekend. The car has been subject to a full body off restoration with photographic record, the works included restoring or replacing all parts during the rebuild and the file for this Triumph contains invoices totalling over £32,000 from specialist restorers RBW Motors of Skelton Co. Durham. Fitted with the desirable overdrive, twin stainless steel exhaust, electric thermostatic fan, walnut dash and Moto-Lita steering wheel, this is one of the finest examples we have seen and, we are told it’s a joy to drive. In rare deviation from standard the car is fitted with the popular upgrade of Mazda MX5 seats however, the original seats are also supplied. The impressive looks of this Wedgewood Blue TR are enhanced by a dark blue fabric hood and tonneau cover. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, a Heritage Certificate confirming the car as an original home market right hand drive example and although exempt a fresh MoT test certificate.
