Description
"The Triumph TR6 was manufactured for seven years, starting in 1969, and by the time production came to an end in July 1976, it was the best-seller of the TR range. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, but the front and rear were squared off and all TR6s featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market, the engine was fitted with carburettors whilst, for other world markets including the UK, the TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. It featured a four-speed manual gearbox, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15 wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and boot, bucket seats and a full complement of instruments. In total, 94,619 TR6s were built of which 86,249 were sold overseas and only 8,370 were sold in the UK.
This is an exceptional example of a UK supplied TR6 CP, extensively restored and tastefully upgraded. These early CP models are highly desired due to their higher power and freer revving engines than the later examples, which were gradually du-tuned and given lower compression ratios to cope with more demanding emissions regulations. The car looks superb in its metallic grey colour, paired with an attractive dark burgundy leather interior. The steering has been upgraded to hydraulic power steering, an expensive upgrade which vastly improves the useability of the car but retains excellent steering feel, far better than can be expected from electronic power steering. The restoration was mostly carried out during 2012 by TR Bitz and the overall appearance of the car still resembles that of a car which has been very recently restored. Our vendor has used this TR6 for a number of European road trips; to Le Mans, Italy, Germany etc performing well at all. A long range aluminium fuel tank was fitted during the restoration and the engine was fully rebuilt to stage two specification and a high torque start motor was fitted along with a Kenlowe fan and many other quality of life upgrades. The car was also fully re-wired by TR Bitz during the restoration, they supplied and fitted a full wiring loom. The seats have been upgraded to Mazda MX5 Mk. II seats, a rather popular upgrade for TR’s, as they offer much better comfort and support than the original items. More recently, the car was fully serviced, had a new power steering pump fitted, new fuel pump and had new springs and isolators fitted, in October 2022. The car is supplied with a V5C registration document, MoT test certificate and a comprehensive history file with bills totalling more than £25,000. Consignor Fraser Smith
