Description

"The Triumph TR5 was manufactured for just 13 months, from August 1967 through to September 1968 and is the most sought after of the Michelotti /Karmann-styled Triumph sports roadsters, combining the most elegant early looks with all-independent suspension and the best engine. Optional extras included overdrive, wire wheels and the Surrey top with detachable roof panel. Visually identical to the Michelotti-styled TR4, the TR5 hid its main differences under the body and the most significant of these was the engine, the first British production sports car unit to feature petrol injection. The 2,498cc straight-six used Lucas new indirect injection system to develop 150bhp. It's the TR5 that aficionados seek out as the most attractive and collectible of the series.
This delightful TR5 has been the subject of a total restoration and presents in excellent order throughout. The red coachwork is in great order as is the contrasting black interior, mohair hood and tonneau cover. During the restoration a new chassis was installed, together with new wings and doors. A full mechanical rebuild was also undertaken with a complete A4 binder detailing invoices for over £46,000, including a complete overhaul of the fuel injection system. Lumenition electronic ignition is fitted as are Alfin drum brakes and an upgraded 3.45 ratio differential. To be expected the 2.5 litre straight-six fuel injected engine runs very well and we are advised offers a brisk performance, the driving experience is enhanced by overdrive on 2nd 3rd and 4th gear. The fastidious vendor has cherished this Triumph throughout his stewardship. Triumph TR5’s always create interest wherever they appear, combining the fabulous styling of a TR4 and the later mechanics that formed the basis of a TR6. Supplied with a V5C registration document, viewing in person is highly recommended to appreciate the quality of this stunning example."
