"Giovanni Michelotti was one of the foremost designers of the time and his artistry shows with the TR4A. The addition of chrome accents and the natural flow from the subtle bulge of the headlights all the way to the rear end is beautifully proportioned. The TR4A had power to match as well; the 2.2 litre engine was good for 110mph and, when equipped in 1965 onwards, with independent rear suspension (IRS), provided exceptional rear-wheel camber control with excellent wheel travel while softer springs thus vastly improving the ride quality. As a side note, during the Sebring 12 Hours in 1966, three IRS-equipped TR4As achieved a remarkable 1-2-3 class victory. Proof positive I think you will agree.
This 1965, UK built TR4A-IRS matching-numbers car has been restored to a high standard. The supplied heritage certificate states that the car was ordered new as a ‘Surrey Top’ and was born in Coventry on the 19th August 1965 before being shipped to Leyland Albion (CA) Ltd. in Salisbury Rhodesia one week later on the vessel Clan Macleod. An English Doctor purchased the car in 1979, who repatriated the vehicle in 2011 when he returned to the UK. A professional UK restorer purchased the vehicle upon its return to the UK and began a major and total body-off restoration. Sadly, ill health intervened and the almost completed project was put into dry storage. The car was then purchased by the vendor (a dedicated Triumph enthusiast), who completed the restoration. Finished in the original colour of Signal Red and complemented by a beautifully patinated red leather interior, the car presents extremely well, wearing the original steel wheels and “banjo” steering wheel. The car reportedly runs and drives very well, benefitting from overdrive in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears whilst sounding glorious through its twin stainless exhausts. Supplied with its V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid through until March 2020, its heritage certificate, a file full of receipts and history this ‘Surrey top’ TR4A has to be the most desirable and rare of TR4s and to find one in such fine condition is rare. "
