"Launched in 1970, the Triumph Stag was a luxury grand tourer. Envisioned as a luxury sports car, it was designed to compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz SL class models. All Stags were four-seater convertible coupés but for structural rigidity and to meet new American rollover standards at the time, the Stag required a B-pillar 'roll-bar' hoop connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. A new 2.5 litre, V8 designed and developed by Triumph's Harry Webster was later enlarged to 2,997cc. Most Stags were fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox although manual gearboxes with overdrive were available. Electric windows, power steering and power-assisted brakes were fitted as standard.
This lovely, 1977 Triumph Stag, with an automatic gearbox was built in the last year of production and was purchased in early 2020 as a ‘lock down’ project. The body was stripped down and repaired as necessary which included replacing the sill panels, changing the driver’s side floor, and putting new door skins on both doors before repainting in the original white. A new black soft top has been fitted, the bumpers were replaced with new stainless-steel bumpers and overriders and new sill covers fitted. The tan interior has been fully cleaned and the seats re-foamed fitting new seat covers. The engine was checked, and the cylinder heads removed and fully rebuilt by marque specialists Paul at Stag Classic Garage. This Stag is supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate which expire in October 2023 and a file with invoices, old MoT’s and some photographs of the restoration. Good condition Stags can be hard to come by, this car is a very attractive example to anyone looking to enjoy the ‘top down’ V8 bliss of a well sorted Stag."
