Description
"DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTIONLike the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and driveline of that Saloon. The powerplant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors. The newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. However, once in the hands of customers there were quibbles over build quality and engine maladies. Although Triumph itself failed to fully resolve the issues, independent specialists have, and well sorted Stags are now the rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL they were always intended to be.
Finished in Mimosa with black interior, this Triumph is fitted with automatic transmission and is supplied with a hardtop. We are advised the 2997cc V8 engine runs well, when on song these engines offer smoothness and performance in an effortless manor. A Jaguar four-speed automatic gearbox has been fitted, offering a more enjoyable drive. The bodywork is corrosion free and whilst the car could do with a little time and attention, it is most certainly a useable example and is ready to be enjoyed immediately. Add to that a thriving owners club network makes for hugely desirable ownership. Supplied with a V5C registration document, some previous MoT certificates and some history, offered for sale without reserve, this Stag could certainly be one to watch.
