Description

"Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. The powerplant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors. The newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. However, once in the hands of customers there were quibbles over build quality and engine maladies. Although Triumph itself failed to fully resolve the issues, independent specialists have, and well sorted Stags are now the rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL they were always intended to be.
Originally registered on 27th September 1973, this Triumph is finished in Inca Yellow with a contrasting dark brown interior with tan piping and a dark brown mohair soft top. Subject to a comprehensive restoration this Stag benefits from excellent paintwork and interior. The significant history folder confirms an expenditure of over £8,000 with the car having covered less than 100 miles since then. To be expected after such a level of spend, we are advised the car drives with no known faults, the automatic transmission operating as it should with smooth gearchanges. Also benefitting from power steering this Triumph Stag is a perfectly useable example. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 20th February 2024, this is a delightful example for a relatively modest outlay.
