Description

"The Triumph Spitfire 4, retrospectively known as the Triumph Spitfire 4 Mk. I, is a rare sight on the roads today even though they were built in greater numbers than, what later became, the Spitfire 4 Mk. II. The designation 4 referred to the four-cylinder engine with Triumph planning a future Spitfire 6 with a six-cylinder power unit. These lightweight and nimble sports cars were designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the Italian design flair still evident and resulting in them being attractive and desirable today.
Acquired by the vendor, unfortunately, with virtually no history it subsequently underwent a comprehensive but sympathetic restoration. The engine (thought to be an exchanged unit) was extracted along with all glass and ancillaries before the bodyshell was prepared for respray. Classic Triumph powder blue was chosen with the V5C amended to reflect this. Many original parts were renovated as much as possible with new used only where necessary. Most of the chromework has been replaced with new which, along with the black interior, presents very well indeed. The carpets are also new along with wooden steering wheel and gear-knob. The wheels (including spare) have all been refurbished and fitted with a new set of tyres and photographs of the restoration will accompany the car along with an original owner’s handbook, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate and an assortment of receipts for parts purchased as well as a V5C."
