The Model: In 1950’s Japan, the Willys M38 Jeep served at the starting point for Toyota’s new FJ-40 Land Cruiser utility vehicle. The FJ-40 proved to be rigid and durable, making considerable inroads into the Jeep market in the United States throughout the 1960s and 1970s. From its introduction in 1960, the FJ-40 was available in a variety of versions. Part of its success was due to a basic platform that was much larger than the Jeep. The majority of 40 series Land Cruisers were built as two-door models. The late 1970s saw significant improvements to the FJ-40 with the addition of front disk brakes, better low range gearing and the outstanding 2F engine. The 2Fs FJ-40s enjoyed 135 bhp from the 4.2 liter unit. Today the FJ-40 is incredibly popular amongst classic truck enthusiasts due to its basic simple and solid design.

The Car: This 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 is a very rare softtop variant and is in spectacular condition. Presented as absolutely fresh from a nut and bolt restoration that included a complete mechanical overhaul as well, this FJ-40 has only seen 200 miles since restoration. This world traveler arrived from Colombia and still wears its Medellin license plates and matching security markings proclaiming its history. It is still powered by its original 2F 4.2 liter engine and is absolutely correct right down to its original Rustic Green color and grey interior. During restoration all hardware was replaced or re-zinc plated. Other details included new hubs, new wiring and new OEM emblems and lights. This truck is at the very finest of the classic Land Cruiser movement.
