The story of this car begins well before its production, in 1941 when the Japanese Imperial Army invaded the Philippines and took possession of an American jeep. They liked the car so much that they decided to send it home to study it. From these studies, Toyota created a similar vehicle for the army, named AK10. After the war, Toyota tried to produce a vehicle that could be appreciated by everyone. Thus, the first BJ Jeep was born. Although it had nothing in common with the AK10, it took advantage of the lessons learned during its development.
This feisty car is still remembered for having made it to the sixth stage of the climb of Mount Fuji, a venture that was impossible before and which impressed the NPA (National Police Agency) so much that it became his official car. It was in those years that Toyota was forced to change its name because of its English competitor (Land Rover). Thus, the Land Cruiser that we know today was born. The great success beyond the national borders of these cars came in 1960 with the production of the Land Cruiser BJ40. This model was characterised by the wing mudguards and the front one, which was considerably spaced out to accommodate the mechanical winch. The spare wheel was mounted at the rear. The interior was very simple and the rear benches were placed longitudinally. The windscreen was foldable and removable.
The car offered for auction is a magnificent 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40, one of the first ever to be imported into Italy with a 3,000 cc Diesel engine. This model is one of the very few BJ40 to be equipped with Toyota's original 4-speed power take-off winch. It has been approved for the transport of 6 people and it has its original plates of 1977.I t has been completely restored in a very accurate way in the smallest details, starting from the chassis and the bodywork that have been completely sand-blasted and powder coated. The mudguards and the bottom have been verified and repainted, all with their original Olive cod.653 (matching colour). The interiors have been entirely preserved as well as all the buttons and devices in the cockpit that are all original and in perfect working order. The mats have all been replaced with the original Toyota ones, the bag with its tools is the original Yuta one. The engine (Matching number) has been completely revised in its main parts. Some components have been replaced such as the brake, clutch and petrol pumps, and finally the injectors have been revised. The wheel rims are trilex original equipment, the spare wheel is also original equipment. The car has recently been checked and is ready to move on any ground and in any condition.
