Description
Rare Tatra 613/3 luxury sedan.
One of only a handful of these Soviet Era cars in Australia.
Part of the FM Collection.
Offered at No Reserve.
Given the Late Owner’s Czech origins, it’s hardly surprising the FM Collection has a distinct focus on the Tatra marque and ultimately comprised no less than four examples, of which only one – this Type 616/3 – dates from the post-war Soviet-era of production. One of relatively few produced, the Tatra was purchased in Europe and privately imported into Australia but has rarely been seen in public, spending many years hidden from view in the owner’s unique private collection. Finished in appropriately Communist shade of black, the duco is showing some wear in places, with a few scratches particularly evident around the rear pillars. The interior is in good condition throughout, the grey cloth upholstery free from damage and the seats themselves are remarkably comfortable. Showing 166,082 kms on the clock, the Tatra has plenty of cool period features including a ‘Red Sound’ Sanyo radio/tape deck, rear speakers and a well-stocked instrumented cluster. Following an extended period of dry storage, the car is not currently running and will require some mechanical recommissioning. Perfect for the next local Cars & Coffee event, the powerful air-cooled V8 engine mounted in the rear and four-speed manual transmission making for an involving driving experience, while Tatra’s intriguing engineering – such as the twin gasoline heaters fed directly from the engine’s main lines – is a guaranteed conversation starter. A remarkable piece of Cold War automotive history, the Tatra 613 is currently unregistered and will be sold with No Reserve.
