Description

57 TALBOT LAGO SPORT 2500 (T14 LS)

French title
Chassis n° 140 053
Engine n° 16045

- Extremely rare model (45 examples)
- In the same family since 1969
- Superb and exciting restoration project
- Original engine and gearbox

According to documents in the file, notably the factory information sheet, the car on offer was delivered new, on 9 January 1957, to the company Damiron. This Talbot Lago still has its original engine numbered 16045 as well as its four-speed ZF gearbox. The coachwork is described on the factory sheet as metallic grey reference T890, with Mastil 250 vinyl and fabric interior, and the car was fitted with Robergel enamel wheels. Our elegant coupé also benefitted from heating, defrosting and sun visors, and this is thought to be one of the last two examples to leave the factory. The car was registered in Paris in July 1965 with the number 6656 RT 75.
This changed later to 9615L 94, the number it still has, having been sold in 1968 by the garage Georges Ovalde in Rosny sous-Bois to the family who has owned the car ever since. On 3 May 1970, entered as number 28, the car took part in the Coupe de l’âge d’Or at Montlhéry finishing 7th in the competition class. Shortly after this, it was put into storage, where it has remained undriven since the start of the 1970s, apart from being started up a few times. This leads us to suppose that the mileage of 72 035 km on the odometer is original. Not started for over ten years and in particularly interesting conserved condition, being relatively complete and sound, our example is a witness to a different era. Now requiring restoration, it should be possible to conserve many of the original elements. The coachwork of this superb coupé bears some signs of being restored while the interior appears to be completely original. As well as being one of the last representatives of one of the most prestigious French marques of the interwar period, our Talbot Lago has the advantage of being one of the last remaining unrestored examples. It comes with transparent and interesting history that adds appeal to a model of which just 45 examples were produced.

The auction of this lot will take place on Friday 18 March.
