Ford GT40 ..Heritage edition
The Ford GT40 is the iconic American high-performance endurance racing car. The Mk I, Mk II, and Mk III variants were designed and built in England based upon the British Lola Mk6. The Mk IV model was designed and built in the United States. The range was powered by a series of Ford V8 engines modified for racing.
The GT40 effort was launched by Ford Motor Company to win long-distance sports car races against Ferrari, which had won every 24 Hours of Le Mans race from 1960 to 1965. The GT40 broke Ferrari’s streak in 1966 and went on to win the next three annual races. The Mk II’s victory was the first win for an American manufacturer in a major European race since Jimmy Murphy’s triumph with Duesenberg at the 1921 French Grand Prix. In 1967, the Mk IV became the only car designed and built entirely in the United States to achieve the overall win at Le Mans.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1969’s unrivalled success, Gulf Oil and Superformance have partnered to bring you a limited edition 1969 Tribute GT40 featuring P1000 continuation prototype chassis numbers. These GT40’s include all aesthetic features of P1075’s 1969 Le Mans victory,and also a plaque naming twenty five of those employees who brought the Gulf racing team such great success that 1969 season.
The 50th Anniversary GT40 MKI are hand built as “Tool Room GT40P/1075” recreations & their configuration mechanically and visually replicates how these winning cars were raced and can be homologated for sanctioned historic racing. Superformance GT40’s are built for the road use, as well as track, & therefore feature air conditioning ensuring the cabin remains a comfortable place to sit.
