Drives superblyRecommissioned by Le Mans Coupes Ltd., Crawley in 2009 at 9,850 miles. Current mileage 12,500 (atoc)Fabulous in Guardsman Blue andWimbledon White. Great registration ASP 1C(recently valued at 7,500)Very special car, known history and provenance, an AC chassis number and realistically guidedIt all started in 1961 when Texan Carroll Shelby wrote to AC Cars to ask them to build him a car modified to accept an American V8 engine. The rest, as they say, is history. This particular car was built in or around 1998 by Superformance of Irvine, California under direct licence from Carroll Shelby as a continuation of his famed AC Cobras of the 1960's and, importantly, has an AC Chassis Number. The specification is extremely high and should not be confused with the plethora of similar-looking replicas. For example, the chassis is a heavy-duty, tig-welded, steel ladder-frame in 2" x 4" rectangular section withbuilt-in crumple zones and a stainless steel roll-over bar. The correct Ford 'Windsor' 351 ciengine (over 400bhp) is mated to a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox and power is distributed to the rear wheels through a BTR Dana LSD.The car has the original shiftergearchange, original handbrake, original Halibrand wheels/tyres and original Smiths instruments. The suspension is fully independent front and rear utilising the very best Ohlin dampers, itsits on Wilwood vented discs, all brake lines are braided, and even the 17-gallon fuel tank is stainless steel with a Monzafiller cap. Finished in the smartperiod colour combination of Guardsman Blue with twin Wimbledon White stripes, this left-hand-drive car was acquired by its previous ownerfrom Clive Sutton Cars of London in 2009. He then appointed the current Superformance importer, Le Mans Coupes Ltd., to collect the car and recommission it at a cost of some 6,277. He collected the Cobra from them with 9,850 miles recorded and it had covered just over 12,500 miles when purchased by our vendor in 2018.The V5cstates the original date of registration of the car as 1965 and the valuable registration numberASP 1C (recently valued at 7,500) pleasingly accompaniesthe car as does a comprehensive history file and the car's original leather presentation leather walletcontaining the original owners manual. Having formed part of our vendor's collection, it has hardly been used recently and the time has come to let someone else have fun with this immaculate Superformance Cobra. This is a very special carwith a clear history andis very realistically guided today.
