The rare Sunbeam Tiger has the advantage of elegant styling combined with a powerful engine. In creating it, Carroll Shelby applied the same recipe as for the AC Cobra, with the help of his friend Ken Miles, and the Sunbeam Alpine was fitted with a Ford V8 260 ci (4.2-litre) engine. The acquisition of Rootes (which owned Sunbeam) by Chrysler spelled the end for the model. The example presented is one of a handful of cars configured to Continental European specification, sold new in France through the SIMCA network. It was in 2015 that our collector discovered this exceptional example, equipped with its hardtop. It was immediately fitted with 14" Minilite wheels and Yokohama tyres. The car had recently benefited from a full restoration, but being a conscientious owner, the car was treated to a major general service costing more than 13 000€, carried out by Retro Roadster in February 2016. A few months later, a new alpaca hood was made for it. In 2018, the dynamo was refurbished and four-piston calipers were fitted at the front along with new discs.
Carefully restored and in good running condition, this Alpine 260 has not been driven for more than a year, so the brakes should be overhauled and the battery needs replacing. Here's an opportunity that won't come round again soon!
