In 1961, approximately 110 Harrington Alpines were produced by Thomas Harrington, Ltd. Based on Series II Alpine bodies, these were built starting in March 1961 and were retailed through authorized Rootes dealerships; production ended in 1964 after a total of approximately 384 units. The Harrington Alpines brought together classic British styling coachwork, a superb chassis by Sunbeam, and race-bred performance tuning by George Hartwell, Ltd., making these seldom-seen cars a thrill to drive. Unique to the Harrington was the addition of the fiberglass fastback roof, which gave it a sleek coupe functionality.

This stunning Sunbeam Harrington Alpine, chassis number B9102814, was the subject of a comprehensive restoration done to a very high level of detail with the goal of creating one of the finest examples in the world. Elegantly finished in light blue metallic paint, the interior of this rare automobile is exquisite with dark blue leather abounding and complemented by a beautifully burled wood dash, Momo shifter knob, and Moto-Lita wood and aluminum steering wheel.

Originally built with a 1,592-cubic centimeter inline-four, this car was later fitted with a 1,725-cubic centimeter, five-bearing inline-four of the type used in the Sunbeam Alpine Series V. Equipped with dual Weber carburetors, this desirably upgraded engine improves performance and durability. As with the exceptional styling of the exterior, the highly detailed engine bay is also something to behold, with chrome accents throughout. Complementing this engine is a five-speed manual transmission, yet another thoughtful, performance-enhancing upgrade.

Driven sparingly since its restoration, the current owner commissioned a no-expense-spared, fully documented, major sorting of all mechanical components, including cylinder head refurbishing and tuning of the carburetors, to improve performance and reliability of this spectacular automobile in 2019.
