Description

By the early 1930s, Stutz had mastered the merger of race-proven mechanicals with handsome coachwork, resulting in a balanced motorcar that appealed to the discerning owner who demanded both performance and style. This 1931 MB model blends Stutz mechanical genius with custom coachwork by LeBaron in convertible sedan guise. Acquired by noted Stutz authority Stephen P. Dean in 1970, he restored it to round out his speed-centric collection. Dean was an engineer by trade and his mechanical knowledge was supplemented with more than 30 years of judging experience at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. The car is finished in a sporting color combination of orange with dark brown fenders. The brown shade is repeated on the wire wheels and the canvas convertible top and extends to its interior leather upholstery and carpeting. The well-proportioned LeBaron coachwork suits the longer 145" wheelbase MB chassis and is complemented with styling touches including center-hinged doors and functional landau irons. It comes complete with an accessory rear trunk, dual side-mounted spare tires capped with rearview mirrors, and the signature Stutz Ra hood mascot.

This car was the sole MB model selected to participate in the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® as part of the featured Stutz centennial and has been used sparingly since. Just two MB models are currently listed with the CCCA, making this example a rare sight. The pairing of two great automotive names – Stutz and LeBaron – promises its next owner admiration at large on the show field as well as personal driving pleasure on the open road.
