The Hawk series of the sporty Studebaker coupes began production in the 1956 with the Golden Hawk. In 1962, the Studebaker Hawk was restyled by designer Brooks Stevens to resemble something of a more European design. This was to be the final iteration of the Hawk as 1964 saw the demise of the model and, subsequently, the Studebaker brand two years later.

This example of the beloved Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk is reported to have spent the majority of its life in the Beverly Hills garage of American television and movie songwriter Ray Evans, half of the multiple Oscar-winning songwriting team of Livingston and Evans. As legend has it, in 1962 Ray Evans and Jay Livingston were each given a Studebaker for writing the theme song to “Mr. Ed,” a television show sponsored by Studebaker. This Astra White Hawk features a two-tone interior, and is fitted with an automatic transmission, power steering and factory air conditioning.
