- Produite de 1939 à 1959, la Studebaker Champion suit la tendance de son époque et connait ainsi de nombreuses évolutions stylistiques ; elle est motorisée par un 6-cylindres en ligne qui développe 85 ch en 1950. C’est elle qui sauve Studebaker de la faillite…
- Créées par deux des plus grands stylistes automobiles de tous les temps - Raymond Loewy et Virgil Exner - les nouvelles Studebaker d’après-guerre, sensationnelles, présentaient une ligne d'aile avant traversante, des capots abaissés et, dans le cas du Coupé Starlight, une étonnante lunette arrière panoramique.
- Le modèle Champion 1950 opère un virage prononcé en termes de style, le designer français Raymond Loewy imposant le « bullet nose » (nez obus) rappelant les réacteurs d’avion ; avec ce look audacieux ces autos vont marquer l’histoire automobile américaine et deviennent des modèles iconiques.
- La voiture qui illustre ces pages est une rare version Convertible, très élégante avec sa teinte Bleu Pétrole, associée à une capote (électrique) beige et un intérieur (refait à neuf) rouge. Elle fut aux mains du même propriétaire, un français résidant aux USA, durant près de 15 ans. Il l’importa à son retour en France et la vendit au propriétaire actuel qui s’en sépare pour d’autres projets.
- Avec son design atypique et attachant, son équipement américain et son coupleux 6-cylindres accouplé à une boîte 3-vitesses + overdrive, elle est une invitation au voyage au long cours, en famille ou en solo. Notez que la voiture est accompagnée de son jouet à pédales, une production russe Moskvich, directement inspirée de la Champion, et repeinte dans la même configuration que la grande.

- Created by two of the greatest automobile stylists of all time - Raymond Loewy and Virgil Exner - the sensational new post-war Studebakers featured a straight-through front wing line, lowered hoods and, in the case of the Starlight Coupe, an astonishing wrap-around rear window.
- The 1950 Champion model made a pronounced shift in terms of style, with French designer Raymond Loewy imposing the 'bullet nose' reminiscent of aircraft jet engines; with this bold look these cars would mark American automotive history and become iconic models.
- The car illustrated on these pages is a rare Convertible version, very elegant with its Petrol Blue shade, combined with a beige (electric) soft top and a (completely restored) red interior. It was in the hands of the same owner, a Frenchman residing in the USA, for nearly 15 years. He imported it upon his return to France and sold it to the current owner who is parting with it for other projects.
- With its distinctive and endearing design, its American equipment and its torquey 6-cylinder coupled to a 3-speed + overdrive transmission, it is an invitation to long-distance travel, with family or solo. Note that the car is accompanied by its pedal toy, a Russian Moskvich production, directly inspired by the Champion, and repainted in the same configuration as the full-size car.
