Trade-in car. We have bought in a Studebaker Avanti straight form the States. This barn find is completely original and still runs perfectly, truly a proper very rare find! The Avanti was a very special car in the 60’s. The Avanti was designed by no one other than Coca-Cola bottle designer Raymond Loewry. According to Studebaker it was “America’s only four-passenger high performance personal car” It was certainly high performance! Top speed was a staggering 284 km/hr ( 178 ml/hr)! Our car has only clocked up 95,695 miles and is mechanically top-notch and has always been well maintained. The 4.7 Litre supercharged V8 runs fantastically and the 4-speed manual gearbox shifts sure footedly without any play, exactly as it should. The car’s mechanics are based on a simple concept of a large engine and a supercharger, making it bulletproof. Studebaker could do with the accolade as the Avanti was meant to grab attention. Studebaker decided to take the Avanti to the Bonneville salt plains and try its hand at various record. The Avanti scored an impressive total of 29 records. Even though all these records have been bettered in the intervening years, the simple fact remains that even today the powerful Avanti is still very impressive. The fibreglass body is naturally spared the ravages of corrosion. The tough chassis is in perfect condition. The fully original interior has a wonderful patina. The nice thing about this Studebaker is that you have two options. You can drive the car in its mechanically sound state with its “barn find” appearance or you can decide to restore her back to her former glory.
