Based on the SC-4 concept car first shown at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the Strathcarron SC-5A was conceived as a highly sophisticated but affordable sports car that could also double as a track day car. Introduced at the following year’s Birmingham Motor Show, the all British machine, the brainchild of the late Lord Strathcarron, was spared nothing in its design. With a honeycomb monocoque chassis designed by Reynard, suspension developed by Prodrive and a Kevlar/carbon composite body, the SC-5A boasted all the right ingredients, topped off by a Triumph 1,200cc, twin camshaft, alloy, four cylinder motorcycle engine, sporting management and fuel injection systems developed by Ilmor, mated to a six speed Quaife sequential gearbox and limited slip differential.
