Description

Heralded by the slogan Nulla tenaci invia est via, meaning, “For the tenacious, no road is impassable.” Seventy-five years after the original company disappeared, the brand is resurrected. Holland’s Spyker reemerged as an automobile constructor at the start of the new millennium. Debuting at the Birmingham Motor Show, the radical C8 Spyder was a complete stylistic departure from anything that preceded it. Yet, it skillfully recalled Spyker’s respected heritage in both aircraft and automobile production.

A Dutch manufacturer of hand-built cars, Spyker even decided to take on the world of Formula One as they made their name synonymous with speed and the huge pressures for success felt by all teams up and down the pitlane. On September 9, 2006, it was revealed that the Midland team was sold; Spyker having paid $106.6 million for the team whose roots can be traced back to the year 1991, when it was founded as Jordan Grand Prix. The Silverstone-based squad and facilities were bought by the Midland group in 2005 and renamed Midland F1 in 2006, before being sold to Spyker Cars towards the end of the 2006 season. The former Spyker team is still competing, now under the banner of Sahara Force India.

The design of the hand-crafted Spyker C8 Spyder represented the latest evolution of Spyker's signature architecture, which is heavily inspired by the company's aviation heritage. The propeller design was consistently applied to many elements of the vehicles. Notable design elements for the C8 Spyder included fuselage-type styling, rear “cannon-port” vents, a prominent wide grille intake, a propeller-inspired steering wheel, an engine-turned dash insert, and more. With a race-bred, fully independent suspension, six-speed Getrag gearbox, and a 400 horsepower, 4.2-liter Audi V-8 engine, the C8 touted a 300 km/h top speed and immediately became a force to be reckoned with in the sports car market worldwide. The Spyker C8 displays a style that would see it in movie features such as Fast and Furious 6, War and Basic Instinct 2.

The Spyker being offered is spectacular, finished in Black with a complementary Ruby Red leather interior. The front has clamshell-type forward hinging and the doors open in a scissor-like manner. The rear-wheel drive, midship design has a trunk area behind the engine compartment that is lined with Ruby Red-patterned leather. There is a removable soft-top that allows open air driving for the fortunate passengers. A factory toolkit in a handsome metal case is also onboard.

The interior is finely finished in alloy and leather with the same Ruby Red-pattern being repeated in the interior’s seats, door panels, sills and footwells. The dashboard features machine-turned alloy fascia that houses white-faced analog instrumentation, including a tachometer. The aircraft inspired theme is also seen with generous switches and lights in the cockpit. Other amenities include air conditioning, radio, tilt/telescopic leather wrapped steering wheel, racecar-type foot pedals, Xenon headlights, intermittent windshield wipers, tire pressure monitoring, remote keyless door locks, interior trunk release; power mirrors, windows, sport seats, speed-proportional steering and AP Racing four-wheel ABS ventilated disc brakes. Low profile tires wrap factory 10-spoke alloy wheels for maximizing its cornering capabilities and handling sustained high speeds. This Spyker is represented as being “perfect.” Reports indicate that less than 300 similar cars in this model were built; this one has been very well-cared-for and has 4730 miles on the odometer. Spyker’s tremendous efforts are embodied throughout this striking platform.
