Description
Founded in 1903 by brothers Maurice and Georges Sizaire in Courbevoie, a suburb northwest of Paris, Sizaire-Naudin produced voiturette-style sports and racing cars. First unveiled at the 1905 Paris Motor Show, their innovative single-cylinder sports cars featured a sliding-pillar independent front suspension aided by a transverse leaf spring. The exposed front leaf spring gave the Sizaire’s front end an instantly recognizable look.
Sizaire & Naudin found success in voiturette racing from 1906 through 1909, before racing cars and their touring companions became larger and more powerful. For Sizaire-Naudin, this meant the use of Ballot four-cylinder engines. This Model C Speedster was produced during the height of Sizaire-Naudin’s single-cylinder voiturette racing success. Little is known about this Sizaire-Naudin’s early history, but it is thought to have resided in Germany prior to its acquisition by the Mullin Collection. With its sparse racing-style coachwork, this Sizaire is evocative of its factory racing counterparts of the era.
