Many people remember the black and gold Hertz Shelby GT350s from 1965 (of which 999 were delivered), but few people know that Hertz also ordered 223 Shelby GT350s in 1968. This is one of those 223 "Hertz" Shelby's. The car has been completely 'frame off - nuts and bolts' restored, mainly with original NOS parts. The car comes with a Marti report stating that it is a Hertz Shelby and that the car is also registered in the Shelby register. The original build-sheet is also included with the car.

The chassis is in a perfect condition and restored to original factory standards. The car has been owned for 34 years by the past owner who has passionately maintained it and has restored it in the original condition. This Shelby GT350 is equipped with a matching numbers 302CI V8 engine with an Autolite Four Barrell carburettor and a C4 automatic transmission. The engine and transmission have been completely overhauled and have only driven 100 km since the overhaul. The car also has the original carburettor and the original cast iron intake manifold.

Shelby originally manufactured the cars with this configuration, but later offered a change to an aluminium intake manifold and Holly carburettor. Not all cars have been modified with the aluminium manifold (according to sources, these are mainly the Hertz car hire Shelby's to ensure more robustness to the customers of these Hertz car hires).

This Shelby has an automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, folding rear seat, Tilt-A-Way wood grain steering wheel, AM/FM radio, clock, 10-spoke wheels, original shoulder belts, roll bar and fog lights. These options are virtually all the options you could get in 1968. The 10-spoke wheels are original NOS, no reproductions (there are 5 including the spare wheel). The original hubcaps and wheels are still there and are in a good condition. Tyres are Goodyear Speedway 350 tyres and are like new. In addition, all body parts are original.

The upholstery of the seats and the dashboard are original and in an excellent condition. The headlining and carpet set have been replaced and are therefore as new. Seat belts are original including the shoulder belts. Sequential direction indicators are working and the air filter housing is signed by Carroll Shelby.

The car won a Mustang Club of America (MCA) Silver Prize at a national show. Attached is an inspector’s report from a Mustang judge, each item that resulted in a deduction of points on that show, has subsequently been corrected. The car has also won several local awards for 'best in show'.
