Introduced at the end of 1992, the 'The Italian Job' Mini was a limited series produced by Rover in very limited numbers and available exclusively in the British and Italian markets. It was set up to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the 1969 film 'The Italian Job' where the starring cars were three Mini Mk1s in white, red and blue. There were 750 units for the Italian market and 1000 for the UK (source: Rover).
They are currently quite rare to find and, moreover, very often in a non-original condition. Rover produced a specific badge for the model, visible in a classic position on the bonnet. The badge echoes the Rover logo in form and consists of the words 'The Italian Job' with the two English and Italian flags. The bonnet stripes are black with two thin white stripes.
On this model they were not applied after painting due to the owner's taste.
The limited edition Mini 'The Italian Job' was only available in four colours: 'Flame Red', 'White Diamond', 'British Racing Green' and the rare 'Electric Blue'. It was not possible to order it with a white roof or generally with any other colour that did not match the body colour. The magnificent example now offered at auction is from 1994 in the rare Electric Blue colour. It retains its original booklets and is in a good overall state of authenticity and preservation. It has recently had its radiator, tyres and battery replaced and is in regular working order. The car comes with its original bonnet stickers separately.
